Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver Welcome Cardinal Leo

Posted : Apr-17-2026

On April 15, the Community of the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver had the great joy and honor of welcoming His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo for his first visit to their convent. Time together began with Vespers, followed by a fraternal dinner.

The community has been present in the Archdiocese of Toronto since 1939. They are an international congregation founded on April 29, 1894, in Austria by Blessed Mary Theresa Ledóchowska. Their first Motherhouse was in Maria Sorg, Austria, before the Generalate was transferred to Rome in May 1905.

The sisters serve in 43 communities across five continents, representing 23 countries and speaking 38 languages. Today, they are blessed with 254 Professed Sisters and 21 in formations around the world.

This year, the congregation joyfully celebrates the 132nd anniversary since their founding. With grateful hearts, they give thanks to God for the gift of our missionary vocation and for the grace of perseverance in religious life.
