Mission Cooperative Program

The Archdiocesan Mission Cooperative Program (MCP) plays a vital role in strengthening the connection between the parishes of the Archdiocese of Toronto and the global Catholic Church. Through this annual appeal, our local faithful learn about the missionary work taking place around the world and are given the opportunity to support these efforts through prayer and financial assistance.

The mandate of the Mission Cooperative Program is twofold:

  1. To support the education and ongoing formation of missionaries, and
  2. To provide food and medical aid for the poor.

All approved appeals must align strictly with this mandate, defined as follows:

MCP Mandate

1. Education of Missionaries

This includes the ongoing formation of priests, seminarians, religious men and women, and lay missionaries who are engaged in evangelization within a mission Diocese. Formation programs should demonstrate how missionaries are being prepared to understand, appreciate, and effectively serve the spiritual and pastoral needs of the communities to which they are sent.

Eligible expenses include non-capital formation-related costs such as:

  • Religious books and educational materials
  • Training, workshops, or short courses, including honorariums of instructors

2. Food and Medical Aid for the Poor

This includes non-capital expenditures that directly provide essential needs to poor and vulnerable communities, such as:

  • Food, potable water, and clothing
  • Health care services and medical programs
  • Medicines and other non-capital medical supplies

Projects Not Eligible for Funding

The Mission Cooperative Program does not provide support for the following:

  • Capital projects — including any form of construction, repairs, renovations, building maintenance, or transportation/vehicle needs
  • Education of children — including school fees or other child education subsidies
  • Administrative or communication programs — including salaries, overhead costs, communication initiatives, and electronic tools
  • Maintenance of missionaries — including food, medical care, or insurance for seminarians, catechists, missionaries, or clergy
  • Any project outside the MCP mandate
